As one of the oldest and most conveniently located communities within the city of Huntsville, north Huntsville offers affordable neighborhoods situated among the beauty of gently rolling hills. Housing types range from apartment living to single family homes in sprawling neighborhoods.

In addition to the convenient shopping and dining opportunities available on University Drive, this community boasts short commute times of 5 minutes to downtown Huntsville and 10 minutes to Research Park and the Redstone Arsenal. Travel time to the Tennessee River is app. 15-20 minutes. The western boundary of north Huntsville is within a 5 minute drive to Bridge Street Town Center which offers residents of this community many options for shopping, dining and relaxation!

North Huntsville is home to Alabama A&M University, J.F. Drake State Technical College and Oakwood University. 





An abundance of city parks as well as recreational facilities offers local residents many opportunities for healthy living! The most active of these is the Richard Showers Center which contains a public swimming pool, a small gym/workout room, youth rooms, several basketball courts, baseball and soccer fields. This popular Rec Center was named to honor Dr. Richard Showers who has represented this district on the Huntsville city council for  the past 25 years.

Primary education opportunities for children in the north Huntsville community include Johnson High School, Butler High School and Lee High School as well as multiple elementary and middle schools within the Huntsville City Schools system. Boys and Girls Club of North Alabama is also active within the community and offers north Huntsville children after school activities and learning resources.
